RUNNERS.SAFUN.COM

So about 6 months ago, I decided I wanted to run a marathon. I have always wanted to run a marathon but it takes so much dedication to initially get started and I never took the opportunity to invest the time and energy for it. Finally, I was at a point in my life where I felt the urge to finally just do it. So I am doing it! I searched around to see which marathon I wanted to do during this fall season. I chose Chicago because it had fabulous reviews and it is a large marathon with lots of support and it is a fairly flat course. So I registered and here I am today.

I was running by myself for a while until about June. Being it was my first marathon, training by myself was so boring. I started to search around. I had heard of
Roger Soler’s Sports
, a running specialty store her in San Antonio, and decided to check it out. I needed to buy some really nice running shoes and this where I went. While I was there, I found out that they had group runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from the Broadway store at 6pm. I started to attend these group runs. Man, for not being a runner, this was definitely a challenge! It was a hilly course and I ran with true, hard-core runners. This guys were fast! I stuck with it and I have come a long way since then.

While running with this group, I met a lot of runners. I found about many other running groups in San Antonio. I didn’t realize we had such a strong running community. I was running with this group during the week but my long runs were on the weekend and I didn’t have anyone to run with. I then found out about Fleet Feet. This is also a running specialty store and they have franchises all over the country. They have a group run on Sunday mornings at 6am. Although this cut into my Saturday night, I made the sacrifice. These runs are so awesome! There about 60 people all training for various marathons but majority for New York, Chicago and San Antonio.

I began to meet more and more people. Turns out that one runner lived 2 houses down from me and that would be Eddie. He told me that he ran with a group of people from the same hood and that I should start joining them. Now, they run on weekdays at 5:30am. I prefer mornings anyways and it was in my hood so it sounded good to me. I joined their mailing list and started to meet them on a regular basis. I run with Ayon, Erin, Daniel, Eddie and Kate and hopefully more to come! I am so happy I met these guys. They are all so fun and interesting and my runs have gotten that much better. I now look forward to my runs.

Now, we email a lot! Back and forth, back and forth. So, we decided that we needed a forum. So I started runners.safun.com. It is fairly new and it needs some cosmetic changes but it is up and running and ready for use. I hope to attract many San Antonio runners to join the community and many visitors to check out what we do in San Antonio. Running has become a huge part of my life and it is mostly because of the people I run with, they make it so fun.

Check it out and become a member!
