My cousin, Marina, ran the Chicago marathon this past weekend. You might recall my post covering the Chicago Marathon last year. Marina and her twin sister, Carina, ran the Chicago marathon in 2007. Carina completed the marathon but Marina fainted at about 20 miles and was rushed to the hospital. She was on target to qualify for the Boston Marathon but didn’t make it. She has always been a long distance runner and pretty fast too. The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon and the only marathon that you need to have a qualifying time to compete in. It is a real honor to run in this marathon.
Marina came back this year, stronger than ever, and finished 26.2 miles in 3 hours and 37 minutes! That is 8.23 min/miles. Wow! This time qualified her for the Boston Marathon. Congrats Mari!
