Our (Texas) former Governor, Ann Richards, passed away yesterday at age 73. She served as Texas Governor for one term, 1991-1995 and was the first woman Texas Governor.
When I think of Ann Richards, I think of that classic picture of her on her Harley Davidson. She was such a classy, witty individual and her personality gained so much popularity not only in Texas but all across the nation. She was an advocate for women, African Americans and Hispanics and really changed Texas to look pass the typical Anglo-Saxon male in Texas politics.
Her family is asking that any memorial contributions be donated to her foundation which supports young women in leadership:

She enlightened Texan politics and her legend will continue to live on. I just wanted to pay my respects to her and her family and note that she will be deeply missed.
