A Note about Love
| February 15, 2009 | Posted by Angela under The Arts, Film, Music, Fashion, Words of Inspiration & Motivation |
Love isn’t about the bouquets of flowers
or mushy love cards
It’s not about the chocolates
or about dinner and a movie
It’s about discovering beauty in someone you didn’t see before
It’s about opening your arms to someone that needs it more than you do
It’s about recognizing differences in others and appreciating them
It’s about seeing a piece of you in someone else and smiling
Love brings people together
Love is stronger than the force that tears people apart
Love isn’t easy because if it was, the world would be at peace
Love isn’t to be celebrated on one day of the year but rather everyday, every hour, every minute
In everything you do and say, there is always a way to spread love
You must love others in order to experience love and you must love yourself in order to receive love.
Happy Valentines Day
Failure: The Secret to Success

I had to share this video. It’s easy to get down on yourself if you fail yet harder to dust yourself off and learn from it.
1st post of 2009

My first post of the new year! What an exciting 2008 it was. I got married, completed my 2nd marathon and took on some exciting challenges at work.
As a new year comes rolling in, you might find yourself thinking about the world and where we are headed. I know I do. With headlines about war zones, dramatic weather changes, child abuse cases…it’s easy to believe that the world is falling apart. It can be depressing. You might hear your grandparent comment “the world is coming to an end.” How convenient. I still have a whole a life to live and hope to bring life into this world and the world is now coming to an end? Well, we all have different beliefs and we can debate on the subject infinitely and involve religious and scientific explanations.
Regardless, today we are living. Today, we have the ability to make a difference in the world. Whether you believe it’s going to end tomorrow, or 1000 years from today or never, the world still exists.
Bad news has always existed, the numerous ways of communicating the bad news has not. We are exposed. Like it or not, people are watching you. We are now informed on what is going on. I see this as an opportunity to do something about it.
I have been watching Planet in Peril and there are so many things going on all across the world that I had no idea was going on. If Lisa Ling, Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta didn’t travel across the world to research cases like the killings of elephants in Africa or sharks off the coast of Costa Rica, I would have never known.
The biggest challenge we all face is to do something about it. I think more people care in the world then don’t. For those that do care but haven’t done anything about it probably haven’t just because they don’t have time or just aren’t sure how to help.
I also just watched 7 pounds. Wow, what an awesome movie. I think this movie reveals the potential humans have to do good in the world, even if you are only touching 7 lives. It takes a lot to help one person but if you have the passion to do it, you can make the world of a difference. Our actions have a domino effect.
My commitment for this year is to help more people. I think I get so tied up in my job and doing things for myself that I forget to dedicate time to helping people.
Reflection on Leadership
| November 8, 2008 | Posted by Angela under Words of Inspiration & Motivation |
I attended the PEER 1 Leadership Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona this past week. We stayed at the 5 star resort, Fairmont Princess. It was quite a treat and I am so appreciative to work for a company that invests in their employees the way PEER 1 does. Over the course of 2 days, we had time to reflect and engage in discussions with team members regarding leadership.
Tuesday evening we had a chili cook off contest by the pool and that was exciting! Tuesday evening was also the Presidential Election. It was hard to concentrate on the task at hand because we were all thinking about who was going to be our next President. All of us, including our Canadian colleagues, were so engaged and anxious. It was the first time some of our Canadian colleagues actually wanted to be an American. They wanted to be able to vote in one of the most important elections in history yet. When the numbers presented themselves and Obama won, we cheered. I couldn’t believe it! I had to go back to my hotel room to watch the speech because I wanted to be fully focused on what Obama was going to say. Seeing him and his family come out was so beautiful and his speech was more than what I was expecting, it was moving. To see all the people gathered in Grant Park, all the people march in front of the White House, all the parties held across the world made me feel so proud to be an American. I actually felt, for the first time in years, that we could be a united country. We do have people that care and share the same passion. We just needed someone to lead the way.
I watched the news until I fell asleep. The next morning, I woke up to the New York Times paper at my hotel room door. Front cover story was Obama’s Presidential Election win. I am keeping this paper forever! In conjunction on what I was able to learn from our leadership conference, I actually learned a great deal on leadership from Obama’s win. Obama has taught us that if you have a goal or a dream in life, you can obtain it even if it is against all odds. Excuses are not acceptable. He has also taught us that you can’t do it alone and need the support of others.
I will never forget this day. What I was doing and where I was will remain in my memory forever. I was able to hear stories from my grandparents about World War II, the Great Depression, JFK and MLK and now I will have a story to tell my children and grandchildren. A beautiful story on one of the most historic events in US history.
A San Antonio family shares their story with the world
| February 9, 2007 | Posted by Angela under Words of Inspiration & Motivation |
Kevin and Christine Miller lost their 3yr old sold, Kyle, in a car accident. He was in a booster seat and the seat belt came undone. His sister, in the same booster seat, was in back seat next to him and her belt didn’t come undone. The Miller family believes that a 5 point harness could have saved his life. These seats are expensive so they created a foundation in Kyle’s name to raise money for these seats for families that need them. They also want to share their story with the world to educate people and potentially save other families from going through a tragic situation as they did. They created a video telling their story and dedicated it to Kyle. It is a must see. According to YouTube, it is the 15th most viewed video yet.
To the Miller family, my prayers go out to you. Your story touched my heart as I am sure it has and will to many others.
