Failure: The Secret to Success

I had to share this video. It’s easy to get down on yourself if you fail yet harder to dust yourself off and learn from it.
Sierra (our boxer) up for Adoption
| January 10, 2009 | Posted by Angela under Family Stuff |
Jason and I currently own 2 dogs: Topaz (boxer mix) and Sierra (full bred boxer). We adopted Topaz from the animal shelter when she was just a puppy. She is 3 years old now.
Topaz generally gets along with other dogs. She lived with my brother’s golden retriever, Rusty, for 6 months and they were best buds. When we gave Rusty back to my brother, Topaz became very sad. We wanted to get her a new friend. We ended up adopting Sierra from a friend that was giving her away. They mainly gave Sierra away because she was super hyper and did not get along with their other dog. Their other dog was older and well trained and Sierra had more energy then they could handle.
Topaz and Sierra immediately got along. They played together and Sierra kept Topaz great company. Topaz is trained and we have tried training Sierra but it is a lot of work because she has a very short attention span. She also doesn’t have good dog manners.
The problem we are having is that Sierra and Topaz have gotten into 3 really bad fights when we were around. The fight mainly occurs when Topaz is trying to get our attention, Sierra comes running in, Topaz snaps at Sierra and then Sierra snaps back and then they start fighting. The fights have been bad and so we have to come the conclusion that we just cannot keep her anymore, for Topaz’s sake.
Sierra is a very friendly, energetic dog however, she is best as an only dog. We really love Sierra but we know it’s best that we give her to an owner that can give her the special attention she needs. Some things about Sierra:
- She can move her body in weird shapes
- She barks at moving objects even if it’s just a bag blowing in the wind
- She likes to curl next to you to keep warm
- She will not wake up to go outside in the morning because she is so lazy
- She will sit down during a walk
- She loves kids
- She’d much rather be inside than outside
- She snorts and farts when she sleeps (being honest here)
She really is a great dog and we love her. She is a good watchdog too. She looks mean but really isn’t. She is strong though! I have wrestled with her a couple of times. In regards to her medical history:
- She has all her latest shots
- She has been fixed
- She needs special shampoo because she has dry skin
- She is about to turn 2 years in April
If you are interested or know of anyone that is interested in adopting her, please contact me angela(at)safun(dot)com. You can even keep her for a couple of weeks to see if you can handle her and if not, we are happy to take her back. We just want to make sure she is put into the right environment for her.

I was having lunch with some friends and we got on the topic of Facebook. I was teasing one of my friends because we all received an invite from her to join Facebook. And she said, “OMG, let me tell you what happened.” So basically she was finally opening up a Facebook account and it asked her if she wanted to send a request to the contacts in her address book. She initially started checking off a few contacts but accidentally selected all and hit next. She tried to go back but it was too late. She invited 600 friends to Facebook! From her mother to old bosses to random acquaintances. We were all dying laughing.
I also just recently received an email to my Gmail account from an old college classmate. It was an apology email. Apparently she joined some dating website and it asked if she wanted to invite her contacts in her address book and she accidentally clicked yes. So all her contacts (over 100) received an invite to join some dating website. She was mortified. She apologized and was explaining why she was joining a dating website (which she didn’t need to do) and you could hear her voice of embarrassment. I didn’t care really. I had to approve the invite to join anyways. But I did feel bad for her.
I have another colleague that accidentally sent out a Hottie request to all her Facebook friends. I received one and was like cool, she thinks I’m hot, lol. Well she apologized and said she didn’t mean to send it out to all her contacts. Not like I cared, I thought it was funny.
It’s just like sending an email to the wrong contact or clicking “reply all” when you meant to send it only to one recipient. I know we have all done something like this. Makes you want to crawl underneath a rock and pretend like you don’t know what the computer is.
San Antonio is growing up
| January 5, 2009 | Posted by Angela under Local Places & Events, Why I like San Antonio |
San Antonio is finally growing up. I remember the days before the Alamo Quarry, then Huebner Oaks now it’s La Cantera. We now carry names like Urban Outfitters, Zara (my favorite), United Colors of Benneton, Nordstorm and Neiman Marcus. I couldn’t do this kind of shopping unless I was traveling to a major city. San Antonio is turning into a major city. We have always been that typical family tourist destination offering the Alamo, Riverwalk, Sea World and Fiesta Texas… oh and good Mexican food. There’s so much more to do now.
What about our nightlife? The hottest night scene right now is way out at 1604/281. Downtown nightlife is just so dull. There are no new up and coming bars opening up downtown and the bars that do exist are so vacant on the weekends. My sister works at a 5 star hotel downtown and the major complaint they recieve? Lack of nightlife. Why can’t all the bars that are opening out at 1604/281 open up downtown? What is the problem here?
Some good news though is that we are opening some major condo high rises downtown such as Vidorra and La Cascada. We have also committed to the San River Project which is in place to revamp 13 miles of the historic river. And we just recently began the reconstruction to River Center Mall which hasn’t received much of anything for the past 20 years! This is all good news for downtown San Antonio. I am just hoping that all these projects bring a better nightlight to downtown San Antonio. I would hate to see us become a Houston or a Dallas. Why can’t we be a Chicago or San Francisco? Or even Austin? Austin has a centralized night scene. Let’s walk and take public transportation. Let’s live downtown without having to own a car.
We are getting there SA Town!
1st post of 2009
| January 5, 2009 | Posted by Angela under Random, Words of Inspiration & Motivation |
My first post of the new year! What an exciting 2008 it was. I got married, completed my 2nd marathon and took on some exciting challenges at work.
As a new year comes rolling in, you might find yourself thinking about the world and where we are headed. I know I do. With headlines about war zones, dramatic weather changes, child abuse cases…it’s easy to believe that the world is falling apart. It can be depressing. You might hear your grandparent comment “the world is coming to an end.” How convenient. I still have a whole a life to live and hope to bring life into this world and the world is now coming to an end? Well, we all have different beliefs and we can debate on the subject infinitely and involve religious and scientific explanations.
Regardless, today we are living. Today, we have the ability to make a difference in the world. Whether you believe it’s going to end tomorrow, or 1000 years from today or never, the world still exists.
Bad news has always existed, the numerous ways of communicating the bad news has not. We are exposed. Like it or not, people are watching you. We are now informed on what is going on. I see this as an opportunity to do something about it.
I have been watching Planet in Peril and there are so many things going on all across the world that I had no idea was going on. If Lisa Ling, Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta didn’t travel across the world to research cases like the killings of elephants in Africa or sharks off the coast of Costa Rica, I would have never known.
The biggest challenge we all face is to do something about it. I think more people care in the world then don’t. For those that do care but haven’t done anything about it probably haven’t just because they don’t have time or just aren’t sure how to help.
I also just watched 7 pounds. Wow, what an awesome movie. I think this movie reveals the potential humans have to do good in the world, even if you are only touching 7 lives. It takes a lot to help one person but if you have the passion to do it, you can make the world of a difference. Our actions have a domino effect.
My commitment for this year is to help more people. I think I get so tied up in my job and doing things for myself that I forget to dedicate time to helping people.
